New project for 2011...

Ooh look, a handy place to keep personal projects without them getting lost in the main photo thread..

New project for 2011...

Postby Richard Olpin » Fri Dec 03, 2010 2:37 am

So, I'm close to completing a whole year's project and it's been interesting, but also hasn't ended up anything like I'd intended!

My original intention was to take something, anything, every day even if it was just a phone pic. The reality was that rarely happened and invariably I've ended up a few weeks behind and uploaded a big batch of randoms from the last month.

The other thing I found was when there was something which particularly interested me, like a concert or special trip like my weekend in Paris then I had more than one shot I wanted to post so I allowed myself to fill a week's worth on one topic. I think I prefer that flexibility so that's going to be my plan for next years project. I'm still going to post 365 shots, but it's going to be a 7 pics per week on the same subject, but hopefully with a different take for each pic. So I may have a week from one particular location, but all different styles of shot, such as those I did on Paris, or this past week of my friend James

It would be particularly good to get some more people involved for the next one and maybe this format of a topic per week would work better for people as you could cover several weeks topics in one day's shooting if you really wanted to.

Anyone got any ideas?

I may have enforced subjects this year as I just enrolled on the OU Digital Photography course after my foray with them into Linux last year

That's the one I did last year.

It's pretty good actually. The first couple of weeks are very noddy as in 'this is how you connect your camera to your computer' noddy but after that it's good. Not too many fixed things to do, most of the exercises are just suggested things to try rather than actually marked assessments. Getting on the forums and chatting to other people was pretty good.

One CMA in week 6 (I got 100% :) ) and then a final assessment of a 10 photo portfolio and some short written answers explaining a bit about the how/why you did things in certain ways in some of those photos.

It's really good. Even though I knew most of the techy stuff already it was a nice little focus point and made me spend a couple of hours a week thinking a bit more about it.

They say you'll need 10 hours a week but honestly anyone that's used an SLR and has a vaguely technical understanding won't need anything like that. I only did the bare minimum time on it but still got 100% on the CMA and 94% on the final thing.

Piece of piss mate, but well worth it. :)

I don't think I'm serious enough into it, although it's tempting. Always fancied a bit of OU :D

I need to finish off some pet projects before I do anything else. Got a new year's resolution to keep ;)
